What Should I Store In My Dresser Drawers?

I get this question a lot. Your answer is going to depend on how many drawers you have and what size they are.

Typically I like to keep undergarments, pjs, loungewear and bathing suits in drawers. These are the items that would look the messiest on a shelf and would be the most difficult to hang on a hanger neatly. If it works out, I like to store them in a certain order too: bras in the top drawers, underwear in the middle drawers and socks in the bottom drawers. Thinking about where you wear them on your body should help you remember which drawers they’re supposed to go in. I like to put bathing suits in the most difficult drawer to access since I personally wear them less frequently. Lastly, I like to put pjs and loungewear in the last available drawer, sometimes together and sometimes separately if space allows.

Most of my clients like their workout clothes in drawers too but I discourage this whenever I can. Usually, the fabric is very slippery and no matter how well they’re folded or rolled, they tend to slink out of place when riffled through. If you’re not into hanging them, you could try a bin or cube to store them in on a shelf or even in a drawer! Then you won’t have to worry too much about keeping them neatly stored.

While I also suggest hanging most kids’ clothes so you can see them easily I do recognize that it is easier to put babies’ clothes in drawers under their changing pad. You don’t want to have to walk away while picking clothes and dressing them. Plus, their outfits are typically on the casual side and are changed often anyway!
